Users can now authenticate on hp LaserJet printers using a simple PIN code entered on the SecureJet Auth PXT heavy-duty keypad. When combined with the SecureJet Print SMP module, SecureJet Auth PXT lets users release instantly their pending print jobs stored on the printer hard drive or on SecureJet Print PS print servers.
Up to 1 million users&PIN codes per printer
SecureJet Auth PXT is a heavy-duty numeric keypad reader directly connected to the hp LaserJet printer/MFP motherboard, combined with a software running inside that printer/MFP.
Up to 1 million users/PIN codes can be recognized per printer. The PIN codes and users list can be securely stored on every printer hard drive or validated against LDAP or Active Directory upon authentication*.
*: Live LDAP/AD validation requires SecureJet Print-PS
The authentication process is very simple:
Just walk to the printer, type your PIN code on the keypad, followed by #.
The PIN code is instantly read and validated against the local or remote users database. SecureJet Auth then grants the access to the MFP function and supplies to the MFP the following user information:
- User full name
- User login
- User email address
That information will be reused by the secure printing module detailed hereunder.
Authenticate for Secure Printing

Auth-PXT user authentication can apply to SecureJet Secure Mobile Printing. Users can reclaim their print jobs stored on the printer/MFP disk or on remote servers, by simply swiping their badge. This feature requires the SecureJet Print-SMP module on the printer or MFP. Server-based retention requires additionally the SecureJet Print-PS server software. You will find more details about Secure Printing in the SecureJet Print-SMP and Print-PS information pages.
PIN codes generation, extraction and validation
SecureJet Auth-PXT can validate PIN code and get user information in various ways:
-
If the user PIN code is in LDAP or Active Directory database, SecureJet can perform an on-line validation of the user PIN code against that database, using SecureJet Print-PS as validation gateway. The user PIN code is submitted to one or more LDAP and Active Directory servers through SecureJet Print-PS, to find the user record matching the PIN code. Active Directory or LDAP then returns the user information such as his email address, login, full name, department name, domain etc. This solution is the best when there is a LDAP/AD database which can be accessed live and is fast.

-
Users PIN code, email address, full name, department and login can be extracted from a LDAP or ActiveDirectory database then securely stored inside the printer hard drive (off-line validation). When an update is done, SecureJet can generate automatically a random PIN code to all new users, and send that PIN code by email to its owner in a customized message.
This generates a CSV file that can be used by the SecureJet Admin software to encrypt and securely store that information on every printer hard drive. The AD/LDAP extraction and upload to devices can be run from script files, and called from a scheduler. This solution is the best when there is a LDAP/AD database which cannot be accessed live due to bandwidth or security reasons.

-
From a CSV semi-colon delimited file listing all users and PIN codes. That CSV file that can be used by the SecureJet Admin software to encrypt and securely store that information on every printer hard drive. The upload to devices can be run from script files, and called from a scheduler. This solution is the best when the badges numbers are in a database separate from the IT systems (i.e. managed by the procurement department in charge of physical access control).
-
The Users List Editor, supplied standard in SecureJet Auth, allows to enter users information on an entry screen, with random unique PIN code generation. The proprietary database generates a CSV file for upload to devices, which can be run from script files or called from a scheduler. This solution is the best when there are few users to manage.
PIN codes range
PIN codes are numeric and can have any value from 1000 to 999999999.
Simple to install
SecureJet Auth-PXT readers connect directly inside the printer without needing any external box or interface. All the software is running inside the printer or MFP and is stored on a memory card inserted inside the device. One some old printers, that memory card is a DIMM board. On some other, it is a CompactFlash card. On the most recent devices it is a host USB plug, similar to the USB plug on a PC. Unlike on a PC, that printer and MFP USB plug accepts a very limited number of devices and Jetmobile has developed a reader especially for the hp printing and imaging products.
